The Southern Ontario Hot Wheels Club Web BBS
Back to
The Southern Ontario Hot Wheels Club BBS has moved.
If you are a new member you will have to register before you will be allowed to access the site. Note that you are not permitted to register using a Web Browser. Read the following directions below.
You must fill in the registration form and use your real name. Failure to do so will mean that you will not be allowed to access the site. Once you have filled in the form you must then send me an e-mail to confirm your application. I will then allow you to access the site. As always membership is free, however I do reserve the right to refuse access to individuals.
Note, this is the only way for new members to gain access to the bbs. E-mail requests for new accounts will not be answered due to my workload.
All members should optain a copy of the FirstClass client which is available as a free download from www.centrinity.com/downloads/client.html. I strongly recommend the Lite version of the client. Web browser access is available for registered members only, but it is very slow compared to the client software.
Once you have downloaded and installed the FirstClass Client you should obtain a copy of the settings file hwbbs.fc you can download this by clicking on the preceeding link. When asked save this file in the Settings folder which can be found in the FirstClass Client folder you installed on your hard drive.
You can also modify the file softarc.fc found in the settings folder. Follow the directions below for the service setup. In the server line type in 199.166.4.207.
This should be copied to the settings folder as above.
You then launch the FirstClass client by double clicking either your settings file or the icon of the FirstClass application. You should then see this login window. The first time you set up the service you will need to configure your user id and password. To do so click on the Setup button on the right.
You will then see the service setup window. Connect via should be set to tcp-ip.fcp. You will then need to type in your user id and password in the User ID and Password fields. There is no guest login available. If you are a new member you will have to go through the autoregistration process before you can be assigned a user id and password. For some people which access the internet via firewalls you may have to use the server's IP address which is 199.166.4.207, or in some instances www.newsroom.net.
Once you have entered your user id and password click Save.
You should now be back at the login screen, you will now see your user ID in the User ID window. Note that you can also manually enter your user ID and password here and skip the previous step if you are using an insecure or shared machine.
If you are a new member you will see the autoregistration screen above. Since the new software allows us to add more user information all of the highlighted items should be filled out as this is now our membership and bbs application form. Note that this list is for the private use of the club.
The Southern Ontario Hot Wheels Club reserves the right to refuse access to any individuals. We expect that all members conduct themselves in a civilized manner as they would in any public place. Failure to do so will result in your immediate removal from the club and bbs. Reinstatement is not an option.
Once you complete this form you must send an e-mail to registrations@newsroom.net indicating your name and that you would like to register. This email is sent to the folks who are looking after the autoregistration process they need this info in order to process your application and will not activate accounts unless a working e-mail is available for the applicant.
Autoregistered users will see this screen until their accounts are activated, you must send me an e-mail as above in order for your account to be approved.
If you successfully completed the above steps, you should now see the bbs desktop. The Hot Wheels conferences are located in the Die Cast folder, double click to open. The Help folder contains answers to many frequently asked questions user may have about the bbs software. The Conferences folder contains all of the networked conferences we belong to. Note that you should probably keep your Hot Wheels related Classifieds in the Diecast area. Happy surfing.
